Jeff Gardner studied jazz with renowned teachers such as Jaki Byard, Charles Banacos, Don Friedman, and John Lewis, and received classical piano training from Ruth Schontal and Ivan Tcherepnin, along with harmony studies under Nadia Boulanger. Throughout his career, Jeff has performed and recorded with an impressive roster of musicians including Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone, Eddie Harris, Steve Lacy, Freddie Hubbard, Bob Sheppard, Paulo Moura, Dori Caymmi, Nelson Veras, and Toninho Horta. He was also part of the Piano Quartet with Martial Solal, Jaki Byard, and Paul Bley, and has led his own band at festivals and clubs across five continents.
As a bandleader, Jeff has released 18 CDs, featuring collaborations with notable artists such as Eddie Gomez, Billy Hart, Gary Peacock, Rick Margitza, "Maraca" Orlando Valle, Gilberto Gil, Drew Gress, Anthony Pinciotti, Julio Barreto, Carlos Balla, Carlos Malta, Marcos Suzano, Sizão Machado, and Alberto Continentino. Jeff has also taught at New York University and conducted workshops at numerous schools and universities worldwide.
