An internationally recognised solo artist, Gene Jackson has established himself as a rhythmic cornerstone in some of the classic contemporary jazz ensembles since the late 1980s, performing alongside legends such as Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, and Wayne Shorter. His extensive collaborations also include renowned artists like Art Farmer, Christian McBride, Dianne Reeves, Kevin Eubanks, Eddie Gomez, and Hugh Masekela. For over a decade, he has creatively reinterpreted jazz classics both in recordings and live performances with the popular New York Standards Quartet.
From an early age, Gene was influenced by drummers like Roy Haynes, Elvin Jones, and Tony Williams. He is passionate about sharing his expertise with the next generation of musicians, currently serving as a visiting professor at Tokyo’s Senzoku Gakuen College of Music. Gene is active in Japan, Europe, and the United States, participating in tours, recordings, and workshops. He finds great fulfillment in his educational role, stating, “It’s especially rewarding when I help students realize that many of the answers they seek are already within themselves.”
