Every week, our jazz students are taught by a USA teacher as part of our ‘New York comes to Groningen’ programme. On Monday afternoon at 15:30, the USA teacher of that week gives a masterclass and concert in the Jazz Club of the Prince Claus Conservatoire. By listening and participating, students will learn all about harmony, rhythm, improvisation, timing, playing in an ensemble and much more. Inspiring and educational!

Art Baden
The musical journey of Russian-born, New York City-based tenor saxophonist Art Baden began at the age of 4, when he started playing his first instrument: the piano. "However, it was at the age of 10 when I discovered the saxophone, and from that moment, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in music. At 17, I earned a full scholarship to the Hanze Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen followed by another full tuition scholarship at the Berklee College of Music, where I earned my Bachelor of Music degree. I furthered my education in Los Angeles at the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, graduating in 2023 with a Master of Music degree."
"As the ambassador for “Remy Saxophones,” I’ve achieved notable recognition, including winning the Downbeat 43rd Annual Student Music Award in the Jazz Soloist category and securing the third position in the 2019 Michael Brecker International Saxophone Competition. My musical endeavors have taken me around the globe, performing with acclaimed artists like Joe Locke, Herbie Hancock, Evgeny Pobozhiy, Don Braden, Alex Sipiagin, among others."
